Which level suits your operation?

The range here is wide, and the difference is not size but how much the cabinet keeps track of. Two ends, and a middle.

If you run a bed & breakfast or let the odd cabin, a key safe is often the right answer. It goes on the wall, the guest gets a code, and that is the whole procedure. Choose one with key control and you can see that the key actually came back, rather than wondering. The Key control filter shows which ones manage that.

If you have ten or so rooms or cabins, a cabinet with separate compartments and an event log makes more sense. Every guest has their own compartment, and you can see which one was opened and when.

If you run a site - a ski resort, a campsite, a larger hotel - the key dispensers are what you want. They are managed remotely, issue one-time codes by SMS or email, keep an event log with photographs, and raise an alarm if something is wrong.

When the cabinet talks to your booking system

The larger Livion Key dispensers are connected to a cloud service, and that opens up what makes unmanned letting genuinely smooth: the cabinet can be driven straight from your booking system. The booking creates the code, the guest receives it automatically, and the code stops working at checkout. No manual step at all.

This requires separate API access, which is a paid option. It is not included with the cabinet, and it has to be set up against your particular booking system. Call us and we will work out what that means for you - it is a question of which system you run, not of which cabinet you choose.

Without the API connection the cloud service still works: you sign in yourself, send out codes and read the log. The difference is whether somebody has to do it by hand.

Is the cabinet going outdoors?

For most people buying from this page the answer is yes, and that is why the range looks the way it does. A cabinet by the entrance or on the wall has to get through a winter without the dials sticking or damp reaching the electronics.

Use the Weather resistant filter. A couple of the larger systems are made to stand in a locked space indoors instead - they are not lesser, but they should not go outside.

How many keys go out at once?

That decides more than anything else which model fits, and it is easy to get wrong. Do not count the number of rooms; count how many keys can be out at the same moment - and allow for high season.

The Number of Key Slots filter takes you to the right size. A cabinet with one compartment covers the tradesman's visit; one with thirty runs a whole site.

About ratings and burglary protection

The cabinets in this category are built for smooth handover, not to resist a break-in attempt. None of the models here carries a burglary rating. That is rarely a problem for the purpose - this is room keys overnight, not storing valuables - but it should be said plainly.

If the keys need protecting against burglary, for instance because they open somebody else's property, look at security-rated key cabinets instead.

Where should it go?

Think about where the guest will actually be standing. A handover cabinet has to be easy to find in the dark and usable with one hand full of luggage, but it should not sit so prominently that it advertises where the keys are.
