Digital and smart key cabinets

Know who has which key, right now. That is the difference from an ordinary key cabinet. An ordinary cabinet logs, at best, that the door was opened. A digital cabinet knows which key is out, who took it and when.

What manual key handling costs

What looks free rarely is. A signature book, a folder or a board of hooks costs nothing to buy, but it costs working time every day: somebody hands keys out, somebody goes looking, somebody works out who forgot to return one. That time never shows up in a budget.

And the large cost is not there. It is what happens when a master key goes missing. Then it is not the key that has to be replaced but the locking system - every cylinder that key opened. For a care home, a health centre or a property portfolio that becomes a sum nobody budgeted for.

A digital key cabinet removes both. A key cannot leave the cabinet unrecorded, and if one does go missing you know immediately who had it last.

What key control actually means

Every key sits on its own tag inside the cabinet. The user signs in with a code, a tag or both, and the cabinet releases only the keys that person is authorised for. Put a key back in the wrong slot and the cabinet says so.

The result is a log you can go back through: who, which key, when it was taken and when it came back. That is the traceability auditors, clients and insurers ask for.

Use the Key control filter to see which cabinets manage it. If you only need to know who opened the cabinet, simpler models with an event log will do.

Does it need to be rated?

Some of the cabinets are certified to the Swedish standard SSF 3492. That is required when the keys open someone else's property, which they often do in healthcare, social care and property management. The Burglary rating filter shows which.

Buy or rent?

The larger systems can be rented rather than bought, which spreads the cost over the contract period and makes the investment easier to get approved. Some models also carry a running cost for the cloud service and SMS notifications - that is stated on each product page.

Finding the right cabinet

The Number of key locations filter takes you straight to the right size. Allow for growth - several of the systems can be extended with add-on cabinets later, but choosing right from the start costs less. Outer height in mm and Outer width in mm help if the cabinet has to fit a particular spot.
