Compact shelving for high density storage

Mobile and compact shelving, built to your room

Twice the storage on the same floor area. Mobile shelving runs on rails and closes up, so you only need one open aisle at a time instead of an aisle between every run. It takes roughly half the floor area that static shelving needs for the same number of shelf metres.

This is not an off-the-shelf product. Every installation is built up from small parts and made to fit the room - ceiling height, load-bearing columns, doors that still have to open. That is why there is no buy button here. It starts with your room and ends with a fitted archive.

See what we have built for others first. Our sister site kompaktarkiv.se/projekt has photographs from installation after installation, each with a short note on what was solved: archives built around load-bearing columns, a sealed version for an operating department, lockable archives, and rooms where static shelving was converted to mobile. The notes are in Swedish, but the pictures carry it.

Then call Rikard on +46 770 33 97 50, or send us the dimensions of the room and we will come back with a proposal. What we need to know is set out under "How it works" below.

How it works, from the first call to a fitted archive

We handle the whole project. You do not have to coordinate between supplier, haulier and fitter - it is the same supplier throughout.

1. Planning. You tell us how large the room is and what is going into it. We go through ceiling height, the floor, doorways and any columns.

2. Proposal and floor plan. You get a drawing showing how the installation can be laid out and how many shelf metres it gives. There is often more than one way to use the same room, and the difference in capacity can be considerable.

3. Quotation. Based on the drawing, with delivery and installation included, so you see the whole cost at once.

4. Delivery and installation. Nationwide. Our fitters work from several points around Sweden, and the parts for new installations ship from Kungsbacka.

This is what we need in order to quote:

  • The dimensions of the room: width, length and ceiling height
  • What is going to be stored (binders, archive boxes, cartons, clothing, shoeboxes, tools, spare parts, stock)
  • Whether you want a hand crank or fixed handles
  • New or used
  • Roughly when it needs to be finished
  • A sketch or drawing of the room if you have one, showing radiators, ventilation ducts, drainage and lighting

That last point matters more than it sounds. Radiators and drainage decide where the rails can actually go, and finding out at the planning stage rather than on installation day saves everyone a round.

What the quotation contains

Delivery and installation times, the price with shipping and fitting included, and pictures and material descriptions of what you are getting. There is room to adjust and add before anything is ordered.

Rikard looks after the mobile shelving

Mobile shelving is its own craft alongside the rest of our range, and here it is Rikard who handles it. He is based in Falun, in the middle of the country, and goes out on site when a project calls for it.

He worked at Lundqvist Inredningar from 2000 to 2003 and at Constructor AB from 2006 to 2008 before joining us, that is, at two of the manufacturers whose installations are standing in buildings around the country today. It is why we can take on moving and rebuilding makes we never sold ourselves.

Call him directly on +46 770 33 97 50. It is fine to call before you have decided anything - most conversations start with "we have a room, can anything be done with it?"

New, used, or move what you already have

New. Superkompakt is our factory-new system in galvanised steel. It is hard-wearing, can be built to most dimensions and carries load well.

Used. Mobile shelving usually stands in rooms the public never sees, and there function counts for more than appearance. We hold used installations from Lundqvist Lundia in Swedish pine. The standard is high and the price noticeably lower.

Moving and rebuilding. If you already have mobile shelving that needs moving, rebuilding or extending we do that too, on most makes - Electrolux, Compactus, LIAB, NordPlan, Constructor, Hölö, Lundqvist, Libra, Kasten and Hövik among others.

And the other way round: if you have mobile shelving you want rid of, get in touch and we will take a look.

What does it cost?

It depends entirely on the room, but a worked example says more than a range. A factory-new Superkompakt giving 302 shelf metres in 20 square metres comes to around SEK 111,000 excluding VAT. Installation and freight are extra.

It is worth doing the sum the other way as well. The same storage in static shelving would have needed roughly twice the floor area, and you pay rent on that area every month for as long as the operation exists.

Common questions

How do I get a proposal that suits us?
Send us the dimensions of the room and we will put a quotation together. Have the ceiling height to hand as well.

Where in the country are you?
We deliver and install across Sweden. Mobile shelving is run from Falun, parts for new installations ship from Kungsbacka, and our fitters work nationwide from several bases.

Do the rails have to be fixed to the floor?
No. They can be bolted down, cast into the floor, or laid floating without damaging your floor.

Is the rail a trip hazard?
No. We either lay a levelling floor between the rails or fit ramps up to each rail. The rail can also be cast into the floor.

How much does it weigh?
Our new mobile shelving in galvanised light-gauge steel weighs about 75 kg per square metre. The contents come on top of that.

How much will the shelves carry?
A Super 1 shelf of 900x600 mm carries 150 kg distributed load as standard, and can be reinforced to 345 kg.

How much clear space does it need around it?
Allow a main aisle of at least 1,200 mm, 200 mm clear to the wall and 500 mm clear above. We go through exact dimensions during planning.

Can the archive be locked?
Yes. The runs can be locked together so that the contents are not accessible.

We have built over 500 installations

Mobile shelving stands in municipal archives, government agencies, hospitals, museums, churches, schools and industry, and the requirements differ. A music library needs different shelves from a central archive, an operating department needs a sealed version with sealing strips and filled end panels, and a converted shelter has its own constraints on ceiling height.

Look through the gallery before you call. kompaktarkiv.se/projekt has photographs from completed installations, from a municipal archive of 2,545 shelf metres to a sheet music library in Karlskrona. How much fits into a given floor area is hard to describe in words and easy to see in a photograph.
