What you need to build a run

A Lundia run is three things, and nothing else:

• End frames - one more than the number of bays. Two for a free-standing run, four for three bays in a row.
• Shelves in packs of six. Four shelf pins come with every shelf, so there is no need to order them separately.
• Bracing for stability, one for every three bays or part thereof. The same brace fits every width.

Shelves are sold in packs of six because the freight on a single shelf is out of proportion to its value. If you need an odd number a few will be left over, and they are rarely in the way.

The dimensions, so you can work it out yourself

Width: the uprights are 30 mm thick and the shelves sit into half that thickness on each side. A finished run is therefore the sum of the shelves plus three centimetres.

• One bay with 1000 mm shelves is 103 cm wide
• Two bays make 203 cm
• Three make 303 cm

Shelves come in 800, 1000 and 1200 mm, and they can be mixed in the same run to fill a wall as closely as possible.

Height: the end frames are 218 cm. The holes for the shelf pins are 5 centimetres apart and a shelf is 19 mm thick, so the clear space between two shelves is always a whole number of 5 cm steps minus 19 mm:

• 231, 281 or 331 mm - an A4 binder stands up
• 381 mm
• 431 mm - an archive box fits on its end

Depths are 27, 30 and 40 centimetres. 27 and 30 are enough for binders and archive boxes, 40 when something is deeper. A shelf carries around 180 kg.

Lundia and Libra are two different systems

Lundqvist have made several shelving systems and they do not fit together. Lundia is the common one and the one described here: the shelves rest on pins in drilled holes.

Libra is a different system where the shelves hang on brackets. If you have a Libra run at home you need brackets, not pins. If you are not sure which you have, call us and we will work it out before you order.

As much at home as in an archive

Clear-lacquered pine looks like furniture rather than warehouse fittings. Lundia works as well as a bookcase in a living room or an office as it does in an archive.

And because the system is built from parts it adapts to the room rather than the other way round, and it extends when the collection grows.

The better choice environmentally

A shelf given a second life does not have to be manufactured again. Pine of this quality lasts for decades, and what usually decides its life is not the material but whether anyone is willing to take it down and move it.
