There are many advantages with code locks. For one, you don't need to carry around any keys at the risk of loosing them (or worse deciding to hide them in the vicinity of the lock).
If many are suppose to have access to the lock there is an even higher risk of losing keys, or displaced that are at the wrong place when you need them.
The lock also works as door handle.
Hotel function or static code
With Burg mechanical code lock, you can choose if you want to use the so-called hotel function on the code lock. With this setting you simply choose a temporary code (by locking with it) that lasts until you use the code to unlock the lock.
Option 2 is to set a static code that remains until you change it, in contrast to the hotel setting you don't choose a new code each time you lock the lock.
Practical reset function with emergency key
Should you accidentally forget the code you can always use the supplied emergency key.
Just insert the key into the key lock, turn it, and the active code is displayed.
