Fire protection wallet A4 - one more layer between the contents and the heat
The wallet is made from fibreglass-reinforced plastic with an aluminium
coating and has a soft inner lining. It closes with a zip and a Velcro fastener,
and it is made to protect the contents from heat.
It suits documents, contracts, insurance papers, cash and licences as readily
as USB drives, memory cards and the external hard drive holding the backup. At
home it is usually passports, photographs and jewellery that end up in it.
How it is meant to be used
The wallet is made to sit inside something else. The manufacturer
states explicitly that it should be placed in a safe that has only limited fire
protection. Put it, holding the most important things, into your fire chest,
document cabinet or safe, and that content gets one more layer between itself
and the heat.
The wallet carries no fire rating, and the manufacturer states no
protection time. We say so plainly, because it decides how the wallet should
be used. It is a complement, not a substitute for a fire chest or a fire rated
cabinet.
It also works as a sleeve
The format and the padded lining make the wallet useful as a protective
sleeve when a laptop or tablet is being carried around. It is also available in
A3.
