Compact and mobile shelving

Compact and mobile shelving - built around your room

Twice the storage on the same floor area. Compact shelving runs on rails and closes up, so you only need one open aisle at a time instead of an aisle between every run. It takes roughly half the area that fixed shelving needs for the same number of shelf metres (hyllmeter).

Turned the other way round: without compact shelving you pay double the rent for the same storage. That is a cost that runs every month for as long as the business exists, and it is usually what decides whether the installation pays for itself.

Compact shelving is built around the room, not the other way round. The installation is assembled from small parts and made to fit the ceiling height, the load-bearing columns and the doors that still have to open. That is why there is no buy button here. It starts with your floor area and ends with an installed archive.

Do you know roughly how many shelf metres you need? The Shelf metre capacity filter above the products shows priced examples at that size. They are examples, not a stock list to choose from.

Call Rikard on 0770 - 33 97 50, or send us the measurements of the area and we will come back with a proposal.

Look at what we have built for others first

Our sister site kompaktarkiv.se/projekt has photographs from installation after installation, with short captions on what was solved: archives built around load-bearing columns, a close-sealing version for an operating department, lockable archives, and rooms where fixed shelving was converted to mobile.

If you find something that resembles your own room, the conversation gets shorter. How much fits into an area is hard to describe in words and easy to see in a photograph.

How it works, from the first call to an installed archive

We handle the whole project. You do not need to coordinate between supplier, haulier and fitter - it is the same supplier throughout.

  1. Planning. You tell us how large the area is and what is going to be stored. We go through ceiling height, floor, doors and any columns.
  2. Proposal and floor plan. You get a drawing of how the installation can be laid out and how many shelf metres it gives. There is often more than one way to lay out the same area, and the difference in capacity can be large.
  3. Quotation. Based on the drawing, with delivery and installation included, so you see the whole cost at once.
  4. Delivery and installation. Nationwide. Our fitters work from several locations in Sweden, and parts for factory-new installations are shipped from Kungsbacka.

This is what we need in order to calculate:

  • The room's measurements: width, length and ceiling height
  • What is to be stored (binders, archive boxes, cartons, clothing, shoe boxes, tools, spare parts, stock)
  • Whether you want hand cranks or fixed handles
  • New or used
  • Roughly when it needs to be finished
  • A sketch or drawing of the room if you have one, with radiators, ventilation ducts, drains and lighting marked. A dwg file is welcome.

Radiators and drains decide where the rails can actually run.

What the quotation contains

Delivery and installation times, the price with freight and installation included, and photographs and material descriptions of what you get. There is room to adjust and add before anything is ordered.

Rikard looks after the compact shelving

Compact shelving is a craft of its own alongside the rest of our range, and here it is Rikard who handles it.

Before he came to us he worked at Lundqvist Inredningar from 2000 to 2003 and at Constructor AB from 2006 to 2008, that is, at two of the manufacturers whose installations stand around the country today. That is why we can take on the relocation and rebuilding of makes we did not sell ourselves.

Call him directly on 0770 - 33 97 50. You are welcome to call before you have decided anything - most conversations begin with "we have a room, can anything be made of it?"

New, used, or move what you already have

New. Superkompakt is our factory-new system in galvanised steel. It is hard-wearing, can be built to most dimensions and has good load properties.

Used. Compact shelving usually stands in spaces that are not open to the public, and then function matters more than appearance. We keep used installations from Lundqvist Lundia in Swedish pine in stock. The standard is high and the price noticeably lower.

Relocation and rebuilding. If you already have mobile shelving that needs to be moved, rebuilt or extended, we do that too, on most makes - Electrolux, Compactus, LIAB, NordPlan, Constructor, Hölö, Lundqvist, Libra, Kasten and Hövik among others.

And the other way round: if you have mobile shelving you want to get rid of, get in touch and we will take a look at it.

What does compact shelving cost?

It depends entirely on the area, but a worked example says more than a range. A factory-new Superkompakt giving 302 shelf metres in 20 square metres comes to around SEK 111,000 excluding VAT. Installation and freight are additional.

It is worth calculating the other way as well. The same storage in fixed shelving would have needed roughly twice the area, and you pay rent on that area every month for as long as the business exists.

Common questions

How do I get a proposal that suits us?
Contact us with the measurements of the area and we will prepare a quotation. Have the ceiling height to hand as well.

Where in the country are you?
We deliver and install throughout Sweden. Parts for factory-new installations are shipped from Kungsbacka, and our fitters work nationwide from several locations.

Do the rails have to be fixed to the floor?
No. They can be fixed to the floor, cast into it, or laid floating without damaging your floor.

Do people trip on the rails?
No. We either lay a levelling floor between the rails or ramps up to each rail. The rails can also be cast into the floor.

How much does it weigh?
Our new compact shelving in galvanised light-gauge steel weighs about 75 kg per square metre. The weight of what is stored comes on top of that.

How much will the shelves take?
A Super 1 shelf measuring 900x600 mm takes 150 kg uniformly distributed as standard, and can be reinforced to 345 kg.

How much clear space does the installation need around it?
Allow a main aisle of at least 1 200 mm, 200 mm clear to the wall and 500 mm clear above. We go through the exact measurements during planning.

Can the archive be locked?
Yes. The bays can be locked together so that unauthorised people cannot reach the contents.

We have built more than 500 installations

Compact shelving stands in municipal archives, government authorities, hospitals, museums, churches, schools and industry - and the requirements differ. A sheet music library needs different shelves than a central archive, an operating department needs a close-sealing version with sealing strips and filled end panels, and a converted civil defence shelter sets its own demands on ceiling height.

The gallery at kompaktarkiv.se/projekt has photographs from completed installations, from a municipal archive of 2,545 shelf metres to a sheet music library in Karlskrona.
